OBIT HICKS, ELLIS ALTON JR.

HICKS, Ellis Alton Jr., of Myrtle Beach, S.C., died Wednesday, March 31, 1993, at Covenant Towers. Mr. Hicks was formerly of Roanoke and was born in Evington, Va., on April 5, 1908, the son of the late Everdell A. and Minnie Patrick Hicks. He retired with over 40 years of service with the Virginia Department of Highways as an associate landscape engineer. During his career with the Virginia Highway Department, he was assigned a territory in every county in the State. Mr. Hicks was a member of the Cave Spring United Methodist Church, a member of the Elk's Lodge in Roanoke, Va. and was a World War II Army veteran. He was married to the late Ruby Arthur Hicks. He was a graduate of New London Academy, Evington, Va., Class of 1926. Surviving are a son, Dale Arthur Hicks, Myrtle Beach; a daughter, Sandra Lee Hicks Kjerulf, Richmond, Va.; a sister, Christine Hicks Taylor, Mesa, Ariz.; and two grandchildren. The family will receive friends Thursday from 7 to 8:30 p.m. at McMillan-Small Funeral Home in Myrtle Beach and Friday from 7 to 9 p.m. at Oakey's South Chapel in Roanoke. Funeral services will be 11 a.m. Saturday, at Oakey's South Chapel with Rev. William C. Logan officiating. Graveside services will follow in the Hicks Family Cemetery in Evington at 1 p.m. The family requests memorials be made to the American Cancer Society, PO Box 327, Myrtle Beach, SC 29577. Oakey's South Chapel is in charge of local arrangements.
