RAILROADS SUED BY SON OF WOMAN HIT BY TRAIN

The son of a woman killed last year when a train hit her car has filed a $10 million lawsuit against Amtrak and CSX Transportation Inc.

Terry R. Weaver claims the March 13, 1992 accident was caused by carelessness on the part of railroad operators.

Myral Weaver, 62, was struck on her driveway, which crosses the tracks.

The railroad companies "failed to keep a proper lookout, negligently failed to pay full time and attention to the operation of the train, and negligently failed to keep their train from colliding" with the car, the suit claimed.

The suit filed last week in Culpeper County Circuit Court also claimed the railroads "failed to maintain the tracks and grade crossing in a safe and proper manner, and failed to provide adequate and proper warnings of approaching trains."
