EX-HOKIES AIDE TAKES KEYDETS JOB

Former Virginia Tech defensive coordinator Mike Clark will accept the same position at VMI, Clark said Tuesday.

Clark was one of three Tech assistant coaches fired by Hokies coach Frank Beamer last winter after Tech went 2-8-1. A 13-year coaching veteran, with five at Tech, Clark replaces former VMI defensive coordinator Bob Forgrave. Forgrave is defensive coordinator at Division II Millersville (Pa.) University.

Clark, from Cincinnati, joins the staff of Keydets coach Jim Shuck, who begins his fifth season at the school this fall.

Beamer's staff changes in November included demoting Clark, who was a coach without a position for a month and a half until Beamer released him in January.

"I will be eternally indebted to Jim Shuck and VMI," Clark said. "Because of the timing of things, I knew I was going to need a break and some people to work with me. VMI brings challenges. In my position, I can focus more on the opportunities it gives me."
