MAGNA VISTA OVERPOWERS GRETNA IN PIEDMONT SOFTBALL

Temika Hodge hit two triples and Donna Hickman struck out seven as Magna Vista leveled Gretna 14-6 in a Piedmont District softball game at Ridgeway.

For the Warriors, Tonya Zehr, Emily Johnson and Cristy Penn also had extra-base hits. Dawn Gibson went 3-for-4 with a single, double and triple.

In other action Wednesday:

\ BOYS' TRACK:At Buchanan, Michael McCaleb won the high jump and the 110-meter hurdles to lead James River to a win in a Pioneer District meet. The Knights had 93 points, followed by Parry McCluer (66), Bath County (42) and Craig County (25). For Parry McCluer, Greg Cash placed first in the 1,600 and 3,200 runs.

\ GIRLS' TRACK: At William Byrd, Alleghany racked up 84 points to 43 for the Terriers. Melanie Fischer was first in the 200 and 100 meter dashes to lead the Mountaineers' victory. The Terriers' Christine Grecus won the long and high jumps.
