CAVE SPRING BOYS DROP COMETS 7-3

Billy Cole slugged a grand slam in the fifth inning to propel Cave Spring to a 7-3 victory over visiting Halifax County in the Northwestern Region baseball tournament Monday.

The Comets (13-7) led 3-2 after Brad Meale's three-run homer in the top of the fifth.

Winning pitcher Kevin Vineyard (9-1) had a no-hitter for 4 innings before giving up two walks and Meale's home run. Will Goodman came on in the sixth inning with one out and the bases loaded and worked out of the jam.

Cave Spring (17-4) next plays a team from Northern Virginia.
