OBIT HALE, ARLIE TAYLOR

HALE, Arlie Taylor, 95, of Blacksburg, died June 1, 1993, in Wythe County Hospital and was born June 21, 1897. Mrs. Hale was born in the Comers Rock Community of Grayson County, the daughter of Johnson and Jennie Taylor. She was a life-time member of the Methodist Church, a homemaker and seamstress, known by many as Mother Hale. In 1945, the family moved to Blacksburg, Va. Mrs. Hale was preceded in death by her husband of forty eight years, Lucious Alexander Hale in 1969; an infant daughter, Leta Mae Hale in 1921; a sister, Sallie Wright in 1985; and a son-in-law, the Rev. Gunnar Johan Teilmann Jr. in 1987. Survivors are her son, Raynard Taylor Hale, now retired, former principal of Blacksburg High School and superintendent of Montgomery and Washington County School Systems; daughters, Rita Neal of Carson City, Nev., former librarian at Gilbert Linkous School in Blacksburg, and Wava Teilmann of Blacksburg, Va., a former Methodist Missionary in Malaysia and Singapore form 1949-1981; a brother, Blake Taylor and wife, Mattie Elma; a sister, Opal and husband, Tom Davis; two nieces, Joye Wright Harrington and Dawn Taylor Rhudy, all of Comers Rock; a special friend, Mrs. Ettie DeBord of Abingdon, Va.; granddaughters are ElisaBeth Teilmann Atkins of Danville, Va., Johanna Teilmann Perry of Exmore, Va., Evalin Teilmann Trice of Blacksburg, Va., and Elrita Annett Little of Milford, Del.; a grandson, Gunnar Johan Teilmann III ("Tiga") of Singapore, S.E. Asia; great-granddaughters are Joy, Jelita and Janna Perry, Kendra Atkins, Marina Annett Brown, Kyla and Lauren Trice; great-grandsons are Michael Jeremy Kemp, Tony and Sam Atkins, Jordan Perry and Isaac Trice. A funeral service will be held at 7:30 p.m. in Blacksburg United Methodist Church Friday evening, June 4, with the Rev. Herbert Hobbs officiating and grandsons-in-law, the Rev. James H. Perry, the Rev. Kenneth Atkins and Joe Trice participating. The service will be followed by family visitation in the church lounge. On Saturday, June 5, at 10 a.m. the body will lie-in-state in her home community at Mt. Zion United Methodist Church, Comers Rock in Grayson County, and will be followed by a funeral service at 11 a.m. The Rev. Rick Eminhizer, Pastor, will officiate and Chaplains, Henry Horton and Frank Bauman of Birdmont Manor, Wytheville, will participate. Interment will follow in the nearby cemetery. Friends and relatives are invited to the family home on Mt. Zion Road following the service. Soloists at both services will be her great-granddaughter, Jelita Perry, close friends, Patricia Berger and Posey Jones. In lieu of flowers, memorial gifts may be made to the Gunnar Teilmann Memorial Enrichment Series at Blacksburg United Methodist Church or the Elk Creek Va. Rescue Squad. McCoy Funeral Home, Blacksburg is in charge of all arrangements.
