PRIMARY LOSER CREATES 3-WAY HOLLINS RACE

Charles L. Millican bolted the Republican Party on Tuesday to create a three-way race for the Hollins District seat on the Roanoke County Board of Supervisors.

Millican sought the GOP nomination for the Hollins District seat last month, but lost to Brenda Flora Wainwright.

Millican, sales manager for a furniture manufacturing company, said he decided to run as an independent because he believes he has the best chance of beating incumbent Bob Johnson, a two-term Democrat.

No last-minute challengers emerged in the Vinton District, giving Vinton District Supervisor Harry Nickens a free ride on the Nov. 2 ballot.

Republican Supervisor Lee Eddy faces a challenge from former county Supervisor Lee Garrett, a Democrat, in the Windsor Hills District.

In Salem, four constitutional officers will face no opposition on the November ballot. They are Sheriff Everette Obenshain, Commonwealth's Attorney M. Frederick King, Commissioner of Revenue Ronald L. Wright Jr. and Treasurer Josephine Blankenship.
