BOSTON MAYOR SAYS HE'LL TAKE VATICAN DUTY

Boston Mayor Raymond Flynn Tuesday reaffirmed his intention to go to Rome as ambassador to the Vatican, saying he had won assurances from President Clinton and Secretary of State Warren Christopher that he will have "an expanded role" to combat human suffering around the world.

Speaking from the White House driveway, Flynn ended days of uncertainty about his nomination, saying his meetings had persuaded him that Clinton and Christopher were "in accord on the mission" of the ambassador's post.
