VICTIM'S FATHER PLANS U.S.-JAPAN EXCHANGE

The father of a Japanese student who was fatally shot in Louisiana after being mistaken for an intruder plans to set up a fund to bring American teen-agers to Japan.

Masaichi Hattori "hopes that as many American students as possible will experience the peaceful life in Japan," which bans ordinary citizens from owning handguns, said a spokeswoman for the group, Kiyoko Ikeda.

Hattori has been sharply critical of the prevalence of guns in American society.

Hattori's 16-year-old son, Yoshihiro, an exchange student in Baton Rouge, La., was killed Oct. 17 after he knocked at the wrong door while looking for a Halloween party. A jury last month acquitted Rodney Peairs of manslaughter charges.
