BAPTISTS: FREEMASONRY UP TO INDIVIDUALS

Southern Baptist Convention delegates voted overwhelmingly Wednesday to allow individuals to decide if Freemasonry violates their Christian beliefs.

Freemasons are members of an international secret society that has as its principles brotherliness, charity, and mutual aid.

Delegates to the denomination's annual meeting here voted to support a Southern Baptist Home Mission Board recommendation that "membership in a Masonic Order be a matter of personal conscience."
