IN SERVICE

AIRMAN PHILLIP S. RICHMOND, son of Phil and Gayle Richmond of 8174 Waterfall Drive, has completed Air Force basic training in San Antonio, Texas.

Richmond is studying to be a pharmacy assistant at Sheppard Air Force Base in Wichita Falls, Texas.

After he completes his course, Richmond, a 1990 graduate of Northside High School, will be stationed at Wright Patterson Air Force Base in Dayton, Ohio.

\ PETTY OFFICER 1ST CLASS MORGAN M. FOSTER, son of Ray M. and Norreda J. Foster of Blue Ridge, has been designated a master training specialist.

Foster, a 1983 graduate of Staunton River High School, is assigned to Submarine Training Facility at the Norfolk Naval Station.

\ LT. CMDR. TODD C. KINCER, son of Steve and Jean Kincer of 5702 Halcun Drive N.W., has graduated from the University of Michigan with a degree in oral and maxillofacial surgery.

Kincer, a graduate of Northside High School, will report for active duty on Guam in August.

\ LANCE CPL. CHRISTOPHER S. CAMERESI, son of Angelo F. and Carol K. Cameresi of 5509 Daytona Road, recently received a Meritorious Mast, an official recognition for superior individual performance.

Cameresi, a 1991 graduate of Northside High School, was cited for outstanding service at Marine Security Command, Kings Bay, Ga.

\ SENIOR AIRMAN EVELYN M. BARNES, daughter of Marie B. and Lloyd M. Merchant of Eagle Rock, has arrived for duty at Langley Air Force Base in Hampton.

Barnes is a 1987 graduate of James River High School.

\ STAFF SGT. EDWARD J. ROCHA JR., son of Edward J. and Gloria Rocha of 4720 Chivas Drive, has arrived for duty at Minot Air Force Base, Minot, N.D.

Rocha is a 1981 graduate of Lord Botetourt High School.

\ LANCE CPL. MALCOLM L. BOOZE, son of Barry L. Booze of 912 Grove Lane, has received the Marine Corps Good Conduct Medal.

The medal recognizes the serviceman'shonest and faithful service during a three-year period. Booze, who is currently assigned at Marine Corps Air Station El Toro, Santa Ana, Calif., is a 1989 graduate of Northside High School.

\ SGT. WAYNE R. JONES, son of David R. and Janet C. Jones of 3833 Bower Road S.W., has received the Marine Corps Good Conduct Medal.

He is currently assigned with Headquarters and Headquarters Squadron, Marine Corps Air Station El Toro, Santa Ana, Calif.

Jones is a 1986 graduate of Cave Spring High School.

\ NAVY PETTY OFFICER 3RD CLASS BENJAMIN A. RAY, son of Ronald K. and Georgia K. Ray of Catawba, is in the Adriatic Sea aboard the aircraft carrier USS Theodore Roosevelt, based in Norfolk.

The ship is participating in Operation Deny Flight, a NATO operation in which allied forces are enforcing a United Nations no-fly zone over Bosnia-Herzegovina.

Ray is a 1991 graduate of Northside High School.

\ NAVY SEAMAN RECRUIT TIMOTHY J. KEPPLE, son of Donald W. and Elaine S. Kepple of 5004 Youngwood Drive N.W., has completed recruit training at Great Lakes, Ill.

Kepple is a 1991 graduate of William Fleming High School.

\ MARINE PVT. EDWIN E. HAM, son of Cecil M. Otey of 129 Patton Ave., has completed recruit training in San Diego.

\ NAVY SEAMAN RECRUIT ROY L. WHITE, son of Clarence N. and Barbara J. White of 1455 Leon St., has completed recruit training at San Diego.

White is a 1991 graduate of William Fleming High School.

\ NAVY PETTY OFFICER 3RD CLASS MATTHEW W. BEARD, son of Marshall D. and Nancy M. Beard of 2212 Timberview Road, is stationed aboard the destroyer USS O'Bannon, which recently was awarded the Secretary of the Navy's 1993 Environmental Quality Award for small ships.

Beard, a 1990 graduate of Northside High School, and his shipmates were praised for their efforts at environmental protection, including the ship's hazardous waste minimization program, plastics-at-sea awareness, fuel management afloat, oil spill prevention and recycling.

\ SGT. MAJ. JAMES R. BRYANT of 403 Howard Drive, Salem, has been promoted to his present rank while serving with 4th Combat Engineer Battalion, 4th Marine Division in Lynchburg.

Bryant is a 1962 graduate of Northside High School.
