NAVY PETTY OFFICER 1ST CLASS DAVID A. GIBSON, son of John D. and Alma A. Gibson of 1511 Azalea St., Salem, has received a letter of commendation.

Gibson was cited for superior performance of duty while assigned with Commander, Operational Test and Evaluation Force, U.S. Atlantic Fleet in Norfolk. Gibson is a 1979 graduate of Salem High School.

\ NAVY AIRMAN MICHAEL S. BELCHER, son of Willie M. and Judy M. Belcher of 2815 Crown Circle, Salem, recently returned from a six-month deployment to the Western Pacific and Persian Gulf aboard the aircraft carrier USS Kitty Hawk, based at Naval Air Station Miramar in San Diego. Belcher is a 1990 graduate of Glenvar High School.

\ JEAN SHELOR of Salem has joined the Women in Military Service Memorial Foundation as a field representative.

Shelor joins worldwide representatives in search of servicewomen to ensure their service will be recognized and honored in the Women in Military Service Memorial.
