EFFORTS BY SALEM CITIZENS, POSTAL CARRIERS APPLAUDED

On May 15, an extraordinary event occurred that underscores the generosity of the citizens of Salem and the dedication of the postal carriers of our area.

Our mail carriers, at the time of regular mail delivery, collected from our citizens almost 10,000 pounds of food items, which were donated to the Salem Community Food Pantry.

It took seven pickup-truck loads to transport the food from the post office to the pantry. This abundance of food will help us through the summer when children are no longer receiving meals at school and the demand for our service increases.

Along with our citizens and postal carriers I wish to thank the following for their time and efforts in this endeavor:

Erica Anderson for her efforts in organizing on the receiving end and for the help of her husband, Ben and their son, Ben Jr.; Jim Hinson, our contact from the post office; Wilbur Mann; Scott Agnor and the Scouts of Troop 55; Jan Ruby; Tom Dalton, president of the Salem Chapter of the National Letter Carriers Association, and his daughter, who illustrated the promotional brochure; and all of our volunteers.\ Beverly White Coordinator Salem Community Food Pantry
