Roanoke woman wins state majorette contest

Tara Anne Duus, daughter Charles and Joan Duus of Roanoke, recently was crowned the 1993 Senior Miss Majorette of Virginia at the state pageant in Hampton.

She will represent Virginia in the Miss Majorette of America competition at Notre Dame University in South Bend, Ind.

Duus is a 19-year-old sophomore at the University of Tennessee.

Two other members of Pizzazz placed in their age divisions of the contest. Jennifer Campbell, 10, placed fourth in the juvenile intermediate division. She is the daughter of Donald and Thelma Campbell of Roanoke.

Kristen Dalton, 13, finished third in the junior beginner division. She is the daughter of Wayne and Annette Dalton of Roanoke.

Kiwanis Club elects officers, directors

Jacqueline Bledsoe has been elected president of The Kiwanis Club of Roanoke for 1993-94.

Other officers elected are: Steven McGraw, president-elect; Robert Bradford, vice president; and John Shumate, secretary and treasurer.

The board of directors includes: Randy Bell, Joe Bear, David Bunger, Vern Danielsen, John Heitz, Tom Miller and Donna Mitchell.
