Insurance coverage topic of LOA seminars

The League of Older Americans Area Agency on Aging is offering free help with navigating the maze of insurance options affecting seniors - including Medicare, Medicaid, Medigap and long-term coverage.

LOA assistant finance director Shannon Abell will conduct two seminars covering changes in Medicare and other health insurance programs, how to file health insurance claims, choosing the best policy and programs that might provide additional benefits. The talks will be followed by a question-and-answer period and individual private consultations with LOA volunteer counselors.

Appointments with counselors also may be scheduled for other times.

The seminars will be held Tuesday from 10 a.m.-3 p.m. at Preston Park Recreation Center, 3137 Preston Ave. N.W., and June 30, from 9 a.m.-3 p.m. at Ogden Senior Center, 2932 Ogden Road S.W.

The talks are free, but seating is limited. Reservations must be made by Friday.

To register or to schedule a counseling appointment, call Dottie Eells at 345-0451.

Harley riders to run for muscular dystrophy

About 300 registered riders will stop at five checkpoints on a pre-determined route and draw a playing card. At the end of the run, riders with the best poker hands win prizes.

MDA will receive proceeds from the entry fees paid by the riders.

For additional information, call Toni Ferguson at the MDA office at 772-3237 or Lloyd Shiffer of Roanoke Valley Harley Davidson at 343-0705.
