DON'T PUT PROFIT AHEAD OF SAFETY

IN READING the June 9 news story by Ron Brown entitled "State checks drinking at concert," I'm surprised that Bob Knight, president of the Easter Seal Society, thinks that they are doing everything they can conceivably do. Discontinuing the sale of alcoholic beverages is not a matter that the Easter Seal Society will consider. Does the revenue from the sale of alcohol make this child's death any easier to accept? I don't think so.

Why can't different groups in the Roanoke Valley that sponsor events consider stopping the sale of alcohol? Persons are not allowed to bring their own, but the events' sponsor will be happy to sell it to them. We seem to put the amount of money that may be raised before the safety of our citizens.

Roanoke should be congratulated that they decided to sponsor "FIRST NIGHT" as an alcohol-free event. SHARON WALKER ROANOKE
