IN SERVICE

Those recently commissioned include:

Eric Gwyn Goodman, son of Roy H. and Patricia Goodman of Dublin, was commissioned as an Air Force Second Lieutenant recently.

Goodman will be stationed at Grand Forks, N.D., Air Force Base.

Two Navy petty officers from the New River Valley recently returned aboard the USS Kitty Hawk to the ship's home port in San Diego after a six-month deployment to the Western Pacific and Persian Gulf.

They are Navy Petty Officer 3rd Class TROY H. DALTON, son of Janet P. and Troy H. Dalton Sr. of Radford, and Navy Petty Officer 3rd Class DAVID W. LONG, son of Phyllis T. Long of Blacksburg.

The aircraft carrier served as the command ship for a battle group during its deployment.

Those recently receiving promotions include:

Air Force Senior Airman AMY Y. VINCENTY, granddaughter of Mr. and Mrs. Charles C. Thorton Sr. of Christiansburg, was promoted to her present rank while serving as a radiologic specialist at Grand Forks, N.D., Air Force Base.

Those completing special training include:

Army Pvt. JOHANNA J. SMITH, daughter of Judith Welker and stepdaughter of William F. Welker of Christiansburg, completed a food service specialist course at Fort Jackson in Columbia, S.C.

Those reporting for duty recently include:

Navy Hospitalman Recruit CHRISTOPHER R. WALKER, son of Warren A. and Joyce C. Walker of Lafayette, to the Naval Hospital in Cherry Point, N.C.

Those completing basic training include:

Air Force Airman CHAD E. LITTERAL, son of Paulette H. Litteral of Blacksburg, graduated from basic training at Lackland Air Force Base in San Antonio, Texas.

Marine Pfc. MICHAEL R. PETERSON, son of Toby L. Smart of Christiansburg, recently completed recruit training at the Marine Corps Depot, San Diego.

Air Force Airman KEVIN R. BOWER, son of Jimmie D. and Martha N. Bower of Riner, graduated from basic training at Lackland Air Force Base in San Antonio, Texas.

Those recently deployed or returning from deployment include:

Navy Seaman MARK C. HOLLOWAY, son of Christine E. Journey of Radford, deployed aboard the salvage and repair ship USS Edenton, based at Little Creek Amphibious Base in Virginia Beach, for six months in the Mediterranean Sea.

Navy Petty Officer CHARLES E. STRAUB, son of Charles E. Straub of Dublin, returned aboard the combat ship USS Sylvania, based in Norfolk.

Those reporting for duty include:

Marine Lance Cpl. DAVID W. PERDUE, son of Irvin W. and Norma V. Perdue of Radford, with 3rd Combat Engineer Battalion, 3rd Marine Division, Okinawa, Japan.

Marine Lance Cpl. DARRELL E. ANDERSON, son of Janice O. Anderson of Dublin, with 8th Motor Transport Battalion, 2nd Force Service Support Group, Marine Corps Base, Camp Lejeune, N.C.

Marine Pfc. CHAD D. JONES, son of Daniel R. Jones of Dublin, with 8th Motor Transport Battalion, 2nd Force Service Support Group, Marine Corps Base, Camp Lejeune, N.C.

Navy Seaman Recruit S. ERIC UNDERWOOD, son of Ronald L. Underwood and Peggy R. McElroy, both of Dublin, completed basic training at Recruit Training Command, Great Lakes, Ill.

Navy Petty Officer 3rd Class KELLEY E. HESLEP, son of Kelley E. and Peggy D. Heslep of Elliston, at the Naval Air Station, Alameda, Calif.

Air Force Airman 1st Class JOHN K. PHILLIPS, son of James R. and Mary Lou Phillips of Pulaski, at the Royal Air Force base in Lakenheath, England.
