OBIT NEWMAN, MARY E.

NEWMAN, Mary E., 92, of Salem, died Saturday, June 26, 1993, in Roanoke Memorial Hospital. She was a native of Botetourt Co., and had been a Salem resident for the past 30 years. She was a member of the Salem Presbyterian Church, and a member of the Round Tuit Circle. She was preceded in death by her parents, Harry and Willie Page Smith; her husband, James O. Newman; two sons, Harold G. Newman, and Hugh M. Newman. Survivors include two sons and daughters-in-law, Harry L. and Katherine Newman, Madison Heights, Howard C. and Betty J. Newman, Christiansburg; three daughters, Hazel Newman, Salem, Edna Harris, Lexington, and June Paxton, Wilmington, N.C.; a daughter-in-law, Pari E. Newman, Salem; six grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren. Funeral services will be held 11 a.m. Monday in the John M. Oakey and Son Chapel, with the Dr. Leighton Culler officiating. Burial will follow in the Sherwood Memorial Park. The family will receive friends at the funeral home Sunday, 7 to 8 p.m. Contributions may be made to the Salem Volunteer Rescue Squad.
