AUTHORITY OKS SEWER-PROJECT LOAN APPLICATION

An application for $575,000 in Farmers Home Admnistration funding was approved Tuesday night by the Montgomery County Public Service Authority for the Merrimac-Slate Branch sewer project.

The FmHA funding, which the PSA hopes will be partially in the form of a grant, will be combined with a $700,000 Community Development Block Grant that the Virginia Department of Housing and Community Development has already approved.

The project will serve roughly 380 customers in the two rural communities in central Montgomery County.

A decision by the FmHA on the county's application is not expected for six to eight months, according to Gary Gibson, PSA executive director.

Construction could begin within a year, if funding is approved.
