SWAT SWIMMERS IN STATE, NATIONAL MEETS

Six members of the New River Valley-based Southwest Aquatic Team have qualified for the Virginia Junior Olympics to be held at Richmond's Riverside Wellness Center on July 30-Aug. 1.

Christie Chavis, Sadie Umberger, Travis Dickerson, Bobby Newcomb, Cole Throckmorton and Russ Throckmorton gained the Junior Olympics by achieving qualifying times during last weekend's Virginia Summer Awards or a previous Class B or Class C swim meet.

In addition, 21 SWAT swimmers will participate in the YMCA Long Course Nationals Aug. 3-6 at Nashville, Tenn.

The 11 girls going to nationals are Marcella Broache, Sarah Clements, Sarah Drye, Elizabeth Newcomb, Laura Reynolds, Deirdre Bryant, Jackie McLaughlin, Tina Tynan, Jamie Rogers, Betsy Garratt and Karen Manning.

The 10 boys who qualified are Rickie Jennings, Brian Manning, Mark Stone, Scott Dunaway, Shawn Dunaway, Graham Gravley, Andrew Dorsey, Steve Lank, Josh Steele and Whit Hughston.
