NEW REGENT HEAD VOWS TO STAY

Terrence Lindvall, the new president of Regent University, said Monday the school won't abandon the Christian principles on which it was founded, even as the dean of Regent's law school left rather than take a new assignment.

Dean Herbert Titus rejected a decision by Regent's Board of Trustees on Saturday that he give up day-to-day management to take an endowed research chair, Regent officials said. Titus is no longer an employee but will be paid the three years remaining on his contract, said Regent spokesman Gene Kapp.

Titus has an unlisted telephone number and could not be reached. The school named Paul Morken, a law school professor since 1986, as interim dean.

Word of the plan to shift Titus' role spread around the campus last week, creating a rare mood of turmoil at the school founded by religious broadcaster Pat Robertson.
