CAR CARRYING WILDER IN MINOR FENDER-BENDER

A state police car carrying Gov. Douglas Wilder was struck from behind by another car Monday, leaving the governor slightly shaken but otherwise unhurt, his office said.

"He was a little shaken up, but apparently he was not injured," said Lisa Katz, the governor's spokeswoman.

Wilder was in the back seat of a state police car heading south on Chamberlayne Avenue when a vehicle in front of him stopped abruptly to make a turn, said Richmond Police Officer Richard Barton, who investigated the 9:55 a.m. accident.

The trooper was slowing to stop behind the car when the Wilder vehicle was hit from behind by another car.

"He apparently is feeling a little stiffness and some mild discomfort," Barton said.
