TOUGH FIGHT FOR TOP SPOT AT NRVS

The battle for supremacy in the Late Model Stock Car division will heat up again Saturday night in the Coca-Cola 200 at New River Valley Speedway.

Ronnie Thomas of Christiansburg has the most victories this season with six, but Paul Radford of Ferrum leads the track championship points race.

Thomas is second and Johnny Rumley is third in the standings. However Rumley has four wins to Radford's three. Salem's Kenny Prillaman has the other victory.

Saturday night's event will be 100 laps.

The Limited Sportsman drivers will be featured in 35 laps of action on the .416-mile NASCAR paved oval. Modified Mini, Mini and Pure Stock drivers are each set for 25 laps.

Gates open at 2 p.m., with practice starting two hours later. Qualifying begins at 6:15 with the first green flag falling at 8 p.m.

Admission is $8 for adults and $1 for children 10 and under.

In other racing:

A race featuring an all-female field will highlight the Dr Pepper 300 at Franklin County Speedway on Saturday night. Originally scheduled for last week, the race, which has 16 drivers, was postponed because of a midnight curfew.

Regular racing is scheduled in the Mini Stock, Street Stock, Late Model, Pure Stock and Rookie divisions.

Gates open at noon, qualifying starts at 6 p.m., and the first race begins at 8. Admission is $5 and children under 10 are admitted free.
