OBIT SHOFFNER, FRANCIS LEWIS

SHOFFNER, Francis Lewis ("Frank"), 86, a resident of Sunny side Presbyterian Retirement Village, Harrisonburg, died at 8:10 Wednesday evening, July 21, 1993, at Sunnyside, where he had resided since 1980. A son of the late John Eachus and Emmerine Beitler Shoffner, he was born on April 3, 1907, in Norristown, Pa., where he made his home until 1940, then he moved to Buena Vista where he lived until 1977. He also made his home in Roanoke for three years prior to moving to Harrisonburg. Mr. Shoffner graduated from Drexel University, Philadelphia, Pa., with a BS in Engineering and was a department manager for Burlington Industries, Glasgow Division, for over 35 years, prior to retiring in 1971. He was a member and Elder Emeritus of the Buena Vista Presbyterian Church and a member of the Buena Vista Masonic Lodge No 186 A.F.&A.M., the Rockbridge Royal Arch Chapter No. 44, of Lexington, Va., of which he was past High Priest, and the Charity Lodge No. 190 A.F.&A.M. in Norristown, Pa. On September 14, 1935, he married Marion Elsie Boyd, who survives him. He is also survived by a daughter, Mrs. Edith Shoffner Vernon, and son-in-law, John Vernon of Staunton; three grandchildren, James J. Vernon of Lynchburg, Sue V. White of Dallas, Texas, and Mary Ellen V. Hoyt of Richmond; and two great-grandchildren. Graveside services will be held Saturday morning at 11 a.m. at the Greenhill Cemetery in Buena Vista, with Rev. Marc Sherrod officiating. Memorial services will follow Saturday at 4 p.m. from the Chapel at the Sunnyside Presbyterian Retirement Community with Rev. Marion Simmons officiating. The casket will not be open. The family will receive friends at the home of his daughter, 805 Lammermoor Drive in Staunton, at any time. Memorial contributions may be made to the Sunnyside Presbyterian Retirement Community, P.O.
