Coca-Cola Consolidated

Coca-Cola Bottling Co. Consolidated, Charlotte, N.C., parent of Coca-Cola Bottling Co. of Roanoke and with operations in Clifton Forge, Dublin, Martinsville, Norton and Bristol, on Tuesday reported second-quarter net income of a record $6 million, or 65 cents a share, up from $465,000, or 5 cents a share in the 1992 quarter. Net sales were $194.5 million, up 12 percent from $173.9 million.

For the half, net income was a record $7.4 million, or 80 cents a share, up from a loss of $118 million, or 20 cents a share, in the 1992 half. Net sales were $348.8 million, up 8 percent from $322 million.

\ Coastal Corp.

The Coastal Corp., Houston parent of ANR Coal Co. and Coastal Coal Sales Co. of Roanoke, on Tuesday reported second-quarter net earnings of $26.3 million, or 23 cents per share, rising to $51.3 million, or 47 cents per share, for the six months. Net earnings in the 1992 quarter were $12.1 million, or 11 cents per share, and $6.1 million, or 6 cents per share, for the 1992 half.

Operating profit for the quarter rose to $143 million from $136.8 million last year, and to $297.6 for the six months from $243.2 million last year.

\ CSX

CSX Corp., Richmond-based transportation and real estate company, on Tuesday reported second-quarter earnings of $154 million, $1.48 per share, up 20 percent from the 1992 quarter. Operating revenue rose 3 percent to $2.3 billion from 1992's $2.2 billion. Operating income was $278 million, up 9 percent from the 1992 quarter's $254 million.

Operating income at the company's rail unit increased 6 percent to $214 million from 1992's $201 million. Gains in merchandise traffic more than offset declines in coal traffic, as operating revenue rose 1 percent to $1.1 billion.

For the first six months, earnings were $145 million, $1.39 per share, including a $61 million, 59 cents per share, restructuring charge in the container-shipping unit in the first quarter of this year. In the first half of 1992, CSX reported a net loss of $260 million, $2.53 per share.
