OBIT STONE, REV. SAMUEL THOMAS

STONE, Rev. Samuel Thomas, 88, of Roanoke, passed away Tuesday, July 27, 1993, at his home. A native of Henry County, he was the son of Frederick G. Stone and Carrie Watkins Stone. He was ordained into the Ministry at the age of 24 and later earned his Doctorate of Divinity in Richmond. He was an Associate Minister of High Street Baptist Church. He pastored Vinton Baptist Church, Truevine Baptist Church, Penhook, William Grove Baptist Church, Logtown, Chestnust Knob Baptist Church, Stuart Community Baptist Church, Roanoke and Pleasant Grove Baptist Church, and conducted religious services for the Burrell Home for Adults. After retirement as a real estate and insurance salesman, he pastored the Christian Fellowship on Melrose Avenue. Survivors include his wife, Bertha Millner Stone; five daughters, Mrs. Daisy Stevens, Mrs. Lucille (Hezekiah) Holland, Mrs. Velma Burch, all of Roanoke, Mrs. Blanche Robinson of Warrenton and Mrs. Hilda Faatz of New York City, N.Y. Also surviving are 13 grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandchild; one sister, Mrs. Bertha Wade of Martinsville; a host of other relatives. Funeral services will be held Friday at 1 p.m. at the High Street Baptist Church with Dr. Noel C. Taylor officiating. Burial will be in Williams Memorial Park. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service on Friday at 12 noon. Hamlar-Curtis, Morticians.
