POST 3 NORTH DOWNS GILES IN TOURNEY

Al Holland Jr. went 2-for-3 and drove in seven runs and Gary Wiggins went 4-for-4 with an RBI as Roanoke Post 3 North defeated Giles County Post 68 18-13 on Saturday night in the American Legion baseball district tournament.

The teams combined for 30 hits and 10 errors.

Post 3 North trailed 12-8 after four innings. North scored 10 runs in the last five innings while holding Giles to one run.

North will face the winner of Saturday night's Halifax-Roanoke Post 3 South contest at 4 p.m. today at Salem Municipal Field.

In other American Legion baseball:

Eric East went 4-for-4 and drove in the decisive runs as Roanoke Post 3 West pounded out a 10-8 victory over Martinsville Post 42 in the tournament.

East's two-out, two-run single in the seventh inning gave West (12-7) a 9-8 lead. East also hit two home runs and finished with five RBI.

Ryan Blevins picked up the victory with three innings of scoreless relief for West, which advances to a Blue Ridge District semifinal at 7:30 p.m. today at Salem Municipal Field against the winner of Saturday night's game between Tri-Counties and Danville.

Martinsville finished with a 9-10 record.
