OBIT WARD, EVAH GENTRY

WARD, Evah Gentry, 84, of Wytheville, died Friday, July 30, 1993 in the Birdmont Health Care Center. She was born in Grayson County, the daughter of the late John L. and Lydia Ella Copenhaver Gentry. She received her B. S. degree from Radford University and taught elementary school in the Wythe County School system for many years. She was a member of St. Paul United Methodist Church, where she taught Sunday School and was a member of the Church Circle. She was also a Charter member of the Pre-school Committee. She was a member of the United Daughters of the Confederacy; the Daughters of the American Revolution and a member of the Retired Teacher's Association. She was preceded in death by her husband, Fred M. Ward, two sisters, Euna Faye Campbell, Nancy Thelma Crotts, and a brother, William Max Gentry. She is survived by two sons and daughters-in-law, John and Judy Ward, Wytheville, Bill and Flora Ward, Vancouver, Wash.; six grandchildren, John Wells Ward II, Jacqueline Lee Ward, Jerry Ward, Heather Ward, Melinda Hardin, Cindy Ward; two sisters, Vere Findley, Zoe Gentry, both of Wytheville; one sister-in-law, Dorothy Ward, Independence. Funeral services will be held Monday, August 2, 1993, ll a.m. at St. Paul United Methodist Church with the Rev. Dr. Charles Burnett and the Rev. Henry Horton officiating. Interment will follow in the Independence Cemetery at 1 p.m. The family will receive friends at the Barnett Funeral Home from 6 to 8 p.m. Sunday or at the residence of John and Judy Ward at any time. The family suggests that those who prefer may make memorials to the St. Paul United Methodist Church Building Fund. Barnette Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
