ABORTION DOCTOR SHOT AT CLINIC; SUSPECT FLEES

A woman seen passing out anti-abortion literature fired several shots at an abortion doctor outside his clinic Thursday evening, wounding him in the arm, police said. She fled in a car.

Dr. George Tiller was still in his surgical scrubs when he was shot while sitting in his car in the driveway at the clinic, said Capt. Jack Leon. He was undergoing surgery at HCA Wesley Medical Center, said Police Chief Rick Stone.

Peggy Jarman, a spokeswoman for Tiller and the ProChoice Action League, said the doctor's injuries were not life-threatening.
