DEAD RATS UNWELCOME AS FOOD LION DECOR

A man was fined $100 Thursday and ordered to stay out of all Food Lion stores after being convicted of putting dead rats on shelves at one of the grocery chain's stores.

Authorities said Roderick W. Lewis, who was charged with destruction of private property and entering property with intent to damage, entered a Food Lion on several occasions in March and placed rats in various locations.

Lewis, 60, of Virginia Beach, apparently was retaliating for a confrontation earlier at the store, authorities said.

"The rat attacks were specific to this Food Lion," prosecutor Dawn Conn said.
