LOOKING FOR ANSWERS VOTERS WANT AND NEED

When the rhetoric is exhausted and the TV commercials have faded away, elections belong to the voters. So the Roanoke Times & World-News is building its coverage of the 1993 statewide campaigns around the voters - and the issues they want to see addressed.

To accomplish this, we're doing three things:

TODAY, we present the first in an occasional series of stories in which we talk to voters around the state about their hopes and fears for the future.

MONDAY, we present the first in an occasional series of stories in which we examine where the candidates for governor stand on issues that hit closest to home in the Roanoke Valley and Western Virginia. Monday's issue: Suspended drivers.

FINALLY, we want to make it possible for you to get involved in questioning the candidates. Got a question for the next governor? Call 981-3119 or (800) 346-1234, extension 119, and follow the directions. We'll try to get you an answer and publish it in our "Ask the Next Governor" column.

Or, you can simply leave a list of the issues you'd like to see the candidates for governor address and what you think should be done to solve them. We'll publish a sampling of your responses with a subsequent story.
