United Methodists in the Roanoke and New River valleys have scheduled their second annual camp meeting Sept. 10-12. Open to the public, it will be held at Camp Alta Mons, the denominational conference center west of Shawsville.

The Rev. Dr. Leonard I. Sweet, president of United Theological Seminary in Dayton, Ohio, will be the preacher. His messages will be given on Friday and Saturday nights at 7:30 and on Sunday afternoon at 3.

A newly constructed pavilion will replace the tent used last year.

Creed Frazier III, minister of music at Thrasher Memorial United Methodist Church in Vinton for the past 25 years, will be song leader. Ronn Lowe, organist at Thrasher, will be organist.

The camp meeting is designed for the family. Saturday afternoon at 3:30 p.m. workshops, music, clowns, face painting and other recreation will be available. Dinner on the grounds will follow at 5:30 p.m.

The camp meeting is a revival of an old practice and is meant to provide fellowship for church members as well as a chance to invite friends. Overnight accommodations are available at the retreat center and camping on the grounds also is permitted. Call 268-2409 for reservations.
