OBIT GOGGIN, SAMUEL LEWIS

GOGGIN, Samuel Lewis, 66, of 302 Darrell Lane, Hurt, died Thursday, September 9, 1993 in Duke University Medical Center. He was the husband of Gwendolyn Dawson Goggin. Born November 11, 1926 in Franklin County, he was the son of the late James Leonard Goggin and Elizabeth Turner Goggin. He was retired corporate compensation benefits manager of the Lane Company with forty-four years service, a U S Navy veteran of WWII, a member of Campbell Lodge #316 AF & AM, and a member of Rocky Mount United Methodist Church. In addition to his wife, he is survived by one daughter, Ann Stewart and her husband, Bob, of Myrtle Beach, S.C.; three stepsons, James Carr and his wife, Laura of Richmond, Gary Hodnett and his wife Dale, and Mark Hodnett and his wife, Wanda, all of Hurt. A funeral service will be conducted at 2 p.m. Saturday in Monte Vista Baptist Church by Rev. Latta Terry. Burial with Masonic graveside rites will be conducted in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends at Finch & Finch Funeral Home Friday from 7 to 9 p.m. and at other times at the residence. The family suggests that those wishing to make memorials consider the Altavista Life Saving Crew, American Cancer Society or the charity of your choice. Finch & Finnch Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
