DRAMA TROLL RETIRES FROM STAGE

The infamous Drama Troll is no more.

He left the Pulaski County High School theater arts program in September when his refrigerator-home went to a landfill.

The toy had been part of the school's drama program for four years. It is not exactly clear where he came from, but he served as a kind of mascot, being placed in front of school buses on theater competition trips.

When he was not on trips, he was kept inside an old refrigerator that had been donated to the drama program and kept in the drama classroom. It came in handy for preserving snacks during extended play rehearsals.

He stayed in its butter compartment.

But while school was out during the summer, the refrigerator broke down. Student Jake Blevins spent two hours trying to defrost it, only to find that a fan had burned out and it would cost more to repair it than it was worth.

It was routinely picked up and hauled to the landfill.

When drama instructor Rhonda Welsh told the students of its demise, the first question was: "You saved the troll, didn't you?"

The troll!

Trolls are defined in folklore as supernatural beings that live underground or in caves. This one has now returned permanently to his underground habitat.
