\ NAVY SEAMAN WILLIAM M. SAUNDERS, son of Eula M. Saunders of Roanoke, has returned from a two-month Australian deployment aboard the aircraft carrier USS Independence.
\ AIR FORCE DEPARTMENT OF DEFENSE CIVILIAN J. BYRON MORRIS of Roanoke has arrived for duty at Bolling Air Force Base, Washington, D.C. He is a deputy base civil engineer.
\ NAVY SEAMAN RECRUIT THOMAS W. PUGH, son of Harry B. Pugh of Roanoke, completed basic training at Recruit Training Command, San Diego, Calif.
\ NAVY ENSIGN STEVEN J. SCHANG of Buchanan was designated a naval aviator. He was presented with Wings of Gold, which marked the culmination of months of flight training with Naval Air Training Unit, Mather Air Force Base, Sacramento, Calif.
\ STOREKEEPER SENIOR CHIEF PETTY OFFICER DONALD T. WILLIAMS of Roanoke has been promoted to his present rank while serving as senior enlisted adviser for the NR USS Miller FF-1091 unit. He is stationed at the Naval Marine Corps Reserve Center, Roanoke.
\ NAVY PETTY OFFICER 1ST CLASS WILLIAM W. JONES, son of William W. and Janie B. Jones of Roanoke, reported for duty at Navy Recruiting District, N.C.
\ NAVY PETTY OFFICER 2ND CLASS JONATHAN ROBINSON, son of Rosa L. Robinson of Roanoke, moved from the Mediterranean Sea aboard the destroyer tender USS Shenandoah, which is based in Norfolk, and is now in the Persian Gulf.
\ NAVY SEAMAN RECRUIT MICHAEL A MILLER, son of Johnny R. and Ruth Ann Miller of 3530 Yellow Mountain Road, recently departed for a six-month Mediterranean Sea deployment aboard the USS America, based in Norfolk.
Miller is a 1991 graduate of Patrick Henry High School.
\ NAVY PETTY OFFICER 2ND CLASS DAVID I. HUNTER, a 1979 graduate of Patrick Henry High School, recently departed for a six-month Mediterranean Sea deployment aboard the USS America, based in Norfolk.
\ NAVY PETTY OFFICER 2ND CLASS JOHN L. DALTON, son of Kelly E. and John L. Dalton Jr. of 3023 Pebble Drive, recently departed for a six-month Mediterranean Sea deployment aboard the USS America, based in Norfolk.
\ AIRMAN 1ST CLASS DAVID F. TRIPP, son of Mazie R. and Bernie W. Tripp of New Castle, has graduated from Air Force basic training at Lackland Air Force Base.\ \ NAVY PETTY OFFICER 1ST CLASS RICKY M. BRATTON, son of George H. and Betty S. Bratton of 4332 Oliver Road N.E., recently departed for a six-month Mediterranean Sea deployment aboard the USS America, based in Norfolk.
Bratton is a 1975 graduate of Andrew Lewis High School.
\ NAVY PETTY OFFICER 3RD CLASS ERIC L. BURFORD, son of Andrew M. Burford and Frances E. Tyree, both of Roanoke, has returned from "Baltops 93" (Baltic Sea Operations) aboard the guided missile cruiser USS San Jacinto, based in Norfolk.
\ MARINE PVT. CHRISTOPHER L. SYNDER, son of Barry L. and Debbie E. Snyder of 4726 Player Drive, has completed recruit training at Parris Island, S.C.
He is a 1992 graduate of William Fleming High School.
\ NAVY SEAMAN RECRUIT ROBERT W. MARILLA, son of Lynn Miller of Roanoke, recently completed basic training at Recruit Training Command, Great Lakes, Ill.
Marilla is a 1990 graduate of Blacksburg High School.
\ NAVY PETTY OFFICER 3RD CLASS DAVID O. TRACY, son of David O. and Frances A. Tracy of 402 Cherry Hill Rd. N.W., departed for a six-month Mediterranean Sea deployment with Attack Squadron 85 aboard the USS America.
Tracy is a 1989 graduate of Patrick Henry High School.
\ NAVY AIRMAN MARC E. SCHRAM, grandson of Curtiss N. Oakes of 5341 Cave Spring Lane, has departed for a six-month Mediterranean Sea deployment with Attack Squadron 85 aboard the USS America.
