ALLEGHANY GETS PLEDGE

Philip Morris U.S.A. has made a three-year $100,000 pledge to the foundation of the Alleghany Highlands Economic Development Authority.

The authority was created by the 1993 Virginia General Assembly to address the economic needs of Alleghany County and the city of Clifton Forge. It uses 5 percent of the local government tax on tools and machinery to fund development projects.

Previous gifts have been made by Grand Piano and Furniture Co. of Roanoke and the Clifton Forge Development Corp.

In making the announcement, Executive Director J. Glynn Loope credited the gift to the efforts of Sen. Malfourd "Bo" Trumbo and to the ties among Philip Morris, Westvaco Corp. and the Hercules Corp.
