MARTINSVILLE QUALIFYING BEGINS TODAY

Late Model Stock qualifying begins at 3 p.m. today for Sunday's Advance Auto Parts 500 at Martinsville Speedway.

The NASCAR doubleheader - a 300-lap Busch Grand National race and a 200-lap Late Model Stock race - has attracted entries from as far away as California, Florida and New York. The entry list includes 47 GN cars and 148 Late Model Stocks, with only the fastest 30 cars - plus two provisional spots - qualifying for each race.

Only the fastest 20 Late Model Stock drivers will earn spots today, with the rest of the field determined in a pair of 50-lap qualifying races starting at 2 p.m. Saturday. The GN drivers qualify at 1 p.m. Saturday.

An overflow of entries is expected in the 100-lap Late Model Stock Car race Saturday night for Franklin County Speedway's Miller Genuine Draft 300. Many cars competing at Martinsville Speedway this weekend figure to make the trip north on Route 220 to race in Callaway.

The first race begins at 7 p.m. Gates open at noon. Admission is $5 for adults, and children under 10 years old are admitted free.

Josh MacDermod scored two goals as Roanoke Valley Christian defeated Holy Cross 5-2 in a Virginia Independent Conference boys' soccer game.
