AUTOPSY: WOMAN BEFORE FIRE

A 77-year-old Bland County woman whose body was found after fire destroyed her home was killed by having her throat slashed, according to autopsy findings.

Claudine Waddell was thought to have burned to death Oct. 21 in her home. But Virginia State Police Special Agent Carroll Delp said an autopsy in Roanoke showed that the woman was attacked before the fire occurred.

The fire destroyed the two-story frame house on Virginia 167.

The woman, who lived alone, apparently was killed between 10:30 p.m. Oct. 20 and 4 a.m. Oct. 21 when the fire was discovered, authorities said.

Anyone with information is asked to contact the Virginia State Police at 228-4444.
