CREMINS TO SPEAK IN SALEM

Bobby Cremins, one of a select group of coaches to lead teams to three ACC basketball championships, will be the guest speaker tonight at the October meeting of the Roanoke Valley Sports Club at the Salem Civic Center.

Cremins is entering his 13th year at Georgia Tech, which last year won the ACC Tournament and advanced to the NCAA Tournament for the ninth consecutive season. The team won ACC titles in 1984 and 1990 and has won 27 games or more in three seasons.

Cremins went to Georgia Tech after six seasons at Appalachian State, which won a Southern Conference title under his guidance in 1979. He was a standout guard during his college days at South Carolina and almost returned to his alma mater as coach last spring.

Late reservations can be made by calling Dan Wooldridge at 389-7373 or Jody Moir at 989-5927. The cost in advance is $10 for members and $15 for guests; at the door, the charge is $12 for members.

There will be a social at 5:45 p.m., followed by announcements at 6:15 and dinner at 6:30.
