KIDS GIVE 2 CENTS ON $1.88 MILLION BOND ISSUE

Next week at this time, the polls will be busy as people in the New River Valley decide, among other issues, whether or not there should be a new library in Blacksburg. It's an important issue involving a loan of $1.88 million.

Although the children at Blacksburg New School aren't old enough to vote yet and don't really care how much money it costs, they still have an opinion on this issue.

Last week, Jo Brown, who works for the Montgomery-Floyd Regional Library came to the school to talk to the kids about the plans for the new library in Blacksburg.

In response, our editor received 14 letters from children at the school who had something to say about this referendum. Here are a few of them.

My name is Vincent. I am 7- years old. I think people should vote yes for the bond referendum so we can have a new library. Really, we do need a new one because the roof leaks, the air conditioning is broken, and there is bad parking."\ Vincent Baudoin

"My name is Amelia. I am 7- years old. I think that people should vote yes! for the bond referendum for a new library in Blacksburg. It's crowded. You have to dig for books."\ Amelia Scwab

"I am 7- years old. I think people should vote yes! for the bond referendum for a new library. I think a new library would be great because the old library's roof leaks, it's crowded bad parking, the air conditioner is broken.

But the new library will have computers, a terrace and a story-time!!!"\ Sophie Embrey

"My name is Lydia. I am 6. I think people should vote yes for the bond referendum for a new library in Blacksburg. We won't have to walk so far. I will have a story room and computers and a terrace."\ Lydia White

"My name is Neil. I'm a kid. I think people should vote yes for the bond referendum. I think it will be a real good library because it will have computers."\ Neil Sen
