DJ `SLAM' DUNCAN, K92 PART

Popular morning DJ at K92 resigned Monday.

Bill "Slam" Duncan, who has been with WXLK (92.3 FM) almost two years, quit because he said the station was going to revamp the morning show and that he had to "shut up" and play more music.

Duncan said the station's owner, Aylett Coleman, had told him that he either accept the change or pack his bags.

Coleman denied Duncan's charges and said there are no plans to change the morning show's format.

Duncan said he was told the change was because about $60,000 to $70,000 worth of commercials had been pulled by advertisers because they were upset by a show Duncan did about two weeks ago on tips for buying a car. Auto dealers didn't like it, he said.

Coleman did say there were a couple of advertisers who didn't like what Duncan did, but said, "that has nothing to do with it."

Duncan, a Richmond native, was voted best radio personality in the April issue of Roanoker magazine and has spiced the morning show with controversial subjects including playing "Cop Killer" by rap artist Ice-T.

"Coach" Sammy Simpson, promotions director - who once shared the morning show with Sally Severeid and Duncan - will take over the slot until a replacement is found.
