OBIT WHITWORTH, PHILLIP ROY

WHITWORTH, Phillip Roy, 89, of Route 1, Thaxton, died Monday, October 25, 1993, at Bedford County Memorial Hospital. He was born in Bedford County on July 21, 1904, a son of the late William Thomas Whitworth and Maude Johnson Whitworth. He was preceded in death by his wife, Edith Florence Williamson Whitworth. He was a member of Walnut Grove Union Church, a retired employee of Cofer Construction Co. and a farmer. He is survived by two daughters and sons-in-law, Nancy W. and Wilkins A. Saunders of Bedford, Judy W. and William W. Breedlove of Pulaski; two sons and daughters-in-law, James Phillip and Myrtle R. Whitworth, John Mark and Shirley Lee Whitworth, all of Waynesboro; two sisters, Elsie Garrett Williamson of Montvale, Mildred Garrett Alphin of Gainesville, Fla.; two grandchildren, Vickie Lee Whitworth of Waynesboro, Jonathan Thomas Breedlove of Pulaski; also several nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be conducted at the graveside at Walnut Grove Union Church Wednesday 2 p.m., with the Rev. Elmer W. Sellers officiating. The family will receive friends from 7 to 9 p.m. Tuesday at the Carder-Tharp Funeral Home, and other times at the home.
