OBIT PIERCE, FRED WILSON
PIERCE, Fred Wilson, 72, of Pearisburg, died Sunday, October 24, 1993, in
Giles Memorial Hospital, following a long illness. Mr. Pierce was a veteran of
World War II and served in the U.S. Navy. He was retired from the
Virginian-Leader. He was born in Marion on February 21, 1921, and was a son of
the late Price W. Pierce and Blanche Phillippi Pierce. He is survived by his
wife, Evelyn Dutton Pierce, Pearisburg; one son, Gregory D. Pierce, Madison,
Ala.; one daughter, Joyce Baker, Banner Elk, N.C.; five grandchildren and one
great-grandchild. Funeral services will be conducted Tuesday, October 26,
1993, at 11 a.m. in Redeemer Evangelical Lutheran Church of Pearisburg with
the Rev. Dennis W. Gillespie officiating. Burial will be in Birchlawn Burial
Park. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Redeemer Lutheran
Church. Givens Funeral Home of Pearisburg is in charge of arrangements.
