RADFORD HEART UNIT MEETS WALK GOAL

The Radford Unit of the American Heart Association topped its goal of $8,200 during the recent American Heart Walk. Backed by pledges from sponsors, participants circled the Radford High School stadium enough times to equal a 5K walk - about 3.1 miles.

Other donations came from businesses and the medical community, as well as a contribution from the Blue Grass Festival.

One walker, Janet Hatfield, won a Mountain Lake Resort brunch for two for bringing in the most donations to the event.

Top teams in donations were fielded by the Radford Community Hospital Wellness Center - whose director, Jim Wright, supervised the walk - First National Bank and Crestar Bank.

Other prizes and certificates also were awarded.

Boy Scout Troop 46 assisted in the event by providing water and fruit for walkers.
