AGENCIES GET NEW NUMBERS

Federal agencies in the Poff Building have new telephone numbers.

The changeover took place Monday as the agencies were switching to a state-of-the art fiber-optic system, which can handle more voice, computer and fax traffic.

Generally, a prefix of "857-2" replaces the "982-6" or "982-4" prefixes.

In most cases, the last three digits of the telephone numbers remain the same.

For example, the U.S. Attorney's Office number, which was 982-6250, has become 857-2250.

If other changes have been made in the telephone number, a recording will direct the caller to the correct number. - RON BROWN
