A radiothon on "The Howard Stern Show" netted John Bobbitt at least $25,000 for his legal and medical bills, Bobbitt's attorney said.

Bobbitt's radio appearance Monday drew thousands of callers, including Susan Olson, who played Cindy Brady on "The Brady Bunch" television program. She agreed during the show to donate money and go on a date with Bobbitt.

But most callers to the syndicated show wanted to donate $25 in exchange for a T-shirt that had the message, "Love Hurts," on the back.

The Manassas, Va., resident whose wife cut off his penis filed for bankruptcy in August. Lawyer Paul Erickson said Bobbitt's liabilities have shot past $100,000 since the filing.

\ Producer Robert Halmi Sr. says he's wrapping up contract talks with British actor Timothy Dalton, 49, to portray Rhett Butler in the CBS miniseries "Scarlett," The Atlanta Journal-Constitution reported Tuesday.

Halmi also cast Sir John Gielgud as Scarlett O'Hara's Irish grandfather, and Esther Rolle, of television's "Good Times," in the TV version of Alexandra Ripley's sequel to Margaret Mitchell's "Gone With the Wind," the newspaper reported.

Ann-Margret may portray Atlanta madam Belle Watling. Already signed for Scarlett is British actress Joanne Whalley-Kilmer. The $40 million, eight-hour miniseries is to be broadcast late next year, or in early 1995.

\ An advanced degree from the college of hard political knocks counts with the ivory tower crowd, as Mayor David Dinkins happily learned.

When Rudolph Giuliani takes over City Hall in January, his predecessor moves to Columbia University as a professor in the School of International and Public Affairs.

University President George Rupp announced Dinkins' appointment Tuesday. "From this day forward, I will be happy to answer to the name of Professor Dinkins. It has a nice ring to it," said the 66-year-old Democrat. Dinkins has a five-year agreement with Columbia for an undisclosed salary.
