Entertainment simulator

The SRV Entertainment Simulator is now parked in Roanoke's Tanglewood Mall near J.C.Penney. The ride simulates roller coasters, airplanes, Alpine slides, race cars and motorcycles, with each program changing every two weeks.

One ride costs $3, and lasts about one-and-a-half minutes.

The simulator is also a drop-off point for Toys For Tots donations.

1994 Barter schedule

ABINGDON - Barter Theatre, having broken attendance records with its final play this year, has already lined up its schedule for 1994.

The season will open with J.M. Barrie's ``Peter Pan'' April 5 through June 18.

It will be followed by Lillian Hellman's drama about a Southern cotton family, ``The Little Foxes,'' from May 25 through June 18; ``Deja Vu,'' a new comedy, June 22 through July 6; ``Man of La Mancha,'' the popular musical based on Cervantes` tales of Don Quixote, July 20 through Aug. 27; ``Lettice and Lovage,'' a comedy by Peter Shaffer, Aug. 31 through Sept. 24; ``To Kill a Mockingbird,'' adapted by Christopher Sergel from Harper Lee's novel, Sept. 28 through Oct. 30; ``Always...Patsy Cline,'' a fan's lifetime relationship with the country music legend, Nov. 2-27, and ``An O Henry Christmas,'' musicals adapted from the author's short stories, Dec. 7-23.

The opening production for the Barter Playhouse next year has not yet been chosen, but the others will be ``Three to Get Ready,'' a comedy about three sons coming to grips with the impending loss of their mother, July 6-31, and ``Oleanna,'' a drama about a student accusing her teacher of sexual harassment, Aug. 3-28.

Barter's First Light Theatre will offer ``Wind in the Willows,'' an adaptation of Kenneth Grahames' enchanting classic, Sept. 1-4.

Richard Rose, who has just completed his first season as Barter's artistic director, lines up his plays early to encourage people to buy discount coupons for attendance at next year's lineup.

The Patron's Choice plan provides six admission coupons for plays any day of the week for $65. The Patron's Pass offers six for any performance except Friday or Saturday for $56. Both represent savings of 25 percent compared to regular ticket prices.

The Early Bird Special provides six admissions good during the first week of any play, except Fridays and Saturdays, for $38, a 50 percent savings. The new Porterfield Pass plan, named for Barter founder Robert Porterfield, provides 10 admissions - enough for all productions at Barter Theatre and Barter Playhouse - as well as free admission to Barter's First Light Theatre, 10 percent Barter Gift Shop discounts, $2 off for additional tickets, and preferential seating for advance reservations, for $72.50.

The plans offer discounts for admission to Barter's December holiday show, faster reservation and ticket window service, early notice of special events and free subscriptions to the Barter newsletter. Credit card orders will be accepted. Further information is available by calling toll-free 1-800-368-3240.

Rose concluded his first season with a production of his own adaptation of ``Dracula!'' which he also directed. It surpassed the attendance records of all plays throughout Barter's 60-year history, playing consistently to sold-out houses.
