Being out of town didn't stop Debbie Reynolds from defending herself when anti-fur activists picketed a Las Vegas hotel she owns to protest an advertisement that has her in a mink coat.

The performer hadn't returned from a trip to New York when about 50 demonstrators showed up Friday.

The ad depicts Reynolds in a full-length mink coat under the caption, "What becomes a Legend most."

Reynolds said in a statement: "Many actresses I have great respect for have posed for this prestigious ad. As an individual and American, I too have the right to be a part of the words called, `Legend.' "

The protest coincided with other demonstrations around the nation on what animal-rights groups dubbed "Fur Free Friday."

Princess Diana wants a reconciliation, but Prince Charles has promised his former girlfriend Camilla Parker Bowles that he will marry her one day, a gossip columnist said Saturday.

As the first anniversary of the royal separation approached, Nigel Dempster, who writes a gossip column for the tabloid Daily Mail, said Diana had wanted a divorce and remarriage, but has changed her mind.

"She wants a reconciliation, she wants to be with Charles, under the same roof, it is said," Dempster said on the television program "Who's Who."

"Only then does she believe that the future of the monarchy is safe," Dempster said.

"The queen and Prince Philip are desperate for Charles and Diana to be reconciled" for the sake of the monarchy and the young princes William and Harry. Dempster said Queen Elizabeth II has invited Diana to the royal estate at Sandringham in eastern England for Christmas.

Paul McCartney says he is looking forward to getting together with former bandmates George Harrison and Ringo Starr to work on a televised homage to the Beatles.

McCartney, who is on tour in Mexico City, said the three surviving Beatles would have their reunion in London in January. The late John Lennon was the fourth Beatle.

Plans for the Beatles documentary, "The Long and Winding Road," were announced a year ago.
