VOLUNTEERS KEEP VALLEY STOCKED WITH STOCKINGS

The stockings were hung by the chimney with care,

In hopes that St. Nicholas soon would be there.

You don't necessarily need a chimney to have a Christmas stocking. Retired and senior volunteers have been making stockings for months in order to provide each resident of Heritage Hall with a full, handmade stocking this year.

The RETIRED AND SENIOR VOLUNTEER PROGRAM adopts one nursing home in the New River Valley each holiday season and sees that each person in residence receives a stocking.

The good news is that you can help support the program and get your own handmade Christmas stocking.

Some of the stockings are sold to offset the costs of making and filling the donated stockings.

They will be for sale for $2.50 each at the upcoming RSVP Bake Sale at Wal-Mart, Dec. 10-11, 10 a.m.-3 p.m.

Stockings may also be purchased at the RSVP office at the courthouse annex in Christiansburg.

Call 382-5775 to reserve your stocking or stockings if you cannot get out.

All retirees and seniors over 55 are invited to an RSVP CHRISTMAS LUNCHEON at St. Paul's United Methodist Church, 220 W. Main St. on Dec. 14 at noon.

A main ham dish will be provided, and those attending should bring a covered dish.

\ ALL AMERICA TOURS has scheduled some trips south.

Islands in the sun might sound good about the end of January, and they're taking a coach down to Palm Beach County, Florida Keys and Key West for nine days, Jan. 26-Feb. 3.

If that's too early in winter, wait until Feb. 21 and board for seven days to the Magic Kingdom, MGM Studios and a stay at Disney's Dixie Landing Resort.

And if country music is more your style, sign up for the March 24-26 visit to the Grand Ole Opry Show and the General Jackson Showboat in Nashville, Tenn.
