NEW DIRECTOR CHOSEN FOR SECRET SERVICE

An officer with nearly 20 years experience in the U.S. Secret Service was selected its director Tuesday by Treasury Secretary Lloyd Bentsen.

Eljay Bowron, 42, becomes the 18th director of the Secret Service since it was established during the Civil War.

The son, son-in-law and brother of Detroit police officers, Bowron began his law enforcement career with the Detroit police, serving 13 months. Most recently, at the Secret Service, he has served as assistant director for protective operations, responsible for guarding the president.
